Ten Days of Giveaways: Day One: Raku and Mixed Metals

Welcome to the Ten Days of Giveaways here at the Earthenwood Studio Chronicles blog!  This event is to celebrate the fact that I just made my 1000th blog post AND etsy sale!

Each weekday will have a special etsy listing or I will give you a chance to comment on the blog to win.  Today, I am celebrating two of my recent loves: the Raku ceramic process and working with mixed metals.  And I am giving away a whole collection of my latest Raku experiments paired with a collection of mixed metal charms and beads.

Many Raku glazes are metallic, coming in many different colors of the metal rainbow from steel grey to pewter to bronze to gold to bright copper.  I have selected a bunch of metals from my bead collection to pair up with the metallic red, green, and bronze Raku beads above.
To win today's prize, leave a comment on the Earthenwood Studio Chronicles blog here and answer this question:

What your favorite jewelry metals are to wear or work with?

All winners will be chosen and posted to the blog on June 15th, so be sure to check back then. You must respond to the June 15th winner post and follow the directions to claim your prize within one week of the posting.  After a week, I reserve the right to choose another winner.  Good luck and thanks for commenting!

  1. Your raku work is so magnificent!

My favorite metals to work with are silver and copper, especially for wirework. I also love making things with PMC which fires to pure silver, and I *really* want to try the PMC bronze.

  2. I'm loving your work with raku and am glad you're having so much fun with it :o)

My favorite metals to work with are copper, antique brass, and gunmetal...Silver and gold are just too shiny for me sometimes...

  3. Hmmm.. toss up between Vintaj metal and Sterling Silver!
I love the feel of both and the shiny of Sterling and the smoky-ness of Vintaj metal.

  4. I really love working with and wearing sterling silver, both because it irritates my allergy less when worn, and because I've always liked the look of it... but I also enjoy working in copper as well, and in regard to that, what I love most is the color.

  5. ALL metals, together, separate, whatever! Especially copper, though.

  6. Although I have a lot of silver and some gold jewelry, I love copper more. I like the color, the earthiness of it, and how well it goes with a variety of stones I like to work with, such as malachite or hematite. Also, copper helps arthritis! Not that I have arthritis, but that's a nifty thing. My mom has some arthritis in the wrists, and wears a copper bracelet if she's doing a lot of typing, and it really does work!

  7. I make a lot of chainmaille and I love sterling but I have expanded into bronze. It is becoming my new favorite.

  8. Fun!

I love copper. Have been a fan since the beginning. I like it in the raw bright stage, but I love it antiqued. I actually am not a snob and will mix most metals together. Raw brass, copper, silver and gold all play a part. And lately I am partial to things that are gunmetal plated.

    Thanks for the opportunity!
    Enjoy the day!

  10. I wear silvertone the most because it's what I happen to have the most of. And I tend to work equally with silver and gold tone findings, but I definitely have a soft spot for tarnished brass. If I had to choose that would be my pick. It has character, looks like it's been places and seen things.

  11. My current favs are gunmetal and antique copper. I like the shiny gunmetal and the versatility of copper. Thanks for the giveaways by the way. AWESOME!

  12. Sterling has always been my favorite, but I've been using a lot of patinaed brass and copper lately, if it's really cool. And I like to enamel copper and use that, too. Plus hammering heck out of ANY metal makes it all the more fun!

  16. I mostly stick with silver, but lately, the natural brass finishes that are so popular now are becoming a favorite. Our local craft store has starting carrying some eye popping metallic chains in bright colors of pinks, blues, and such; I want to play with them, but I'm afraid the finish will rub off quick.

  19. Well right now my face metal is brass and the reason being is that I am so new to making jewelry , bending wire and using metals that all that precious sterling silver would be a waste in my novice hands. I like the brass though...you can manipulate it , color it and mess with it to your lil ole hearts content and it obliges you with some pretty cool results.

  21. I am quite partial to Vintaj brass. I love what I can do with it's colour and the huge selection of cool findings :) I do love to work with Silver as well.

  22. Wow, lovely!

My favorite to work with is probably silver, just because I've got so much of it. I've started having some more fun with copper lately and recently got some brass jump rings for playing with in maille work, but they tarnish within a day or two in our climate, which was disappointing.

  23. Congrats!!Fantastic giveaway!

I tend to favor wearing sterling silver. Many years ago when I made pieces, it was my fave to work with too

  27. Your giveaway is breathtaking! I love the raku pendants! I can't wait to see the rest of your "experiments"!
I love working with copper and enameling the copper with powdered enamels. I love that you are never sure how the colors are going to turn out and if you are going to have a disaster (like I did this weekend with a pendant).
I also like working with sterling silver and copper wire and making Viking Knit earrings, necklaces and bracelets.

  31. What a generous giveaway. I have been following your blogging about Raku! I have always loved the way the colors move in that type of glazing process- it is fascinating.
I use different metals for different pieces but my all time favorite for the past year has been COPPER!! It is so rich and even better with some patina.

  32. I don't work much with metal yet (except as a printmaker, where I prefer copper over zinc), but I love to wear copper and silver.

  33. When I first started working with wire, it was always silver. I liked how it could oxidize itself and how well it went with most beads. Many years and a multitude of experiments later, I find that while I still love silver, copper is working it's way into my heart. Antiqued copper, bright shiny copper, patinad copper-There just isn't an end. It mixes so well with the Terra Cast charms I like to use in their varity of finishes. And you can find it in such unlikely jewelry making supply places like the hardware store!

What fun you must be having with the raku! The pieces for the givaway are wonderful :)
